Ben Avram is a Jerusalem artist whose work is infused with the distinctive atmosphere of this unique city. He depicts a variety of local and biblical characters, not as a stranger looking for the exotic, but as an artist who lives and breathes Jerusalem the HolyCity.
His characters are a harmonious part of their environment, an extension of religious customs and Biblical figures. There is something magical about the light in the Land of Israel. Ben Avram captures this magic-the sunlight, the range of colors, the local flavor and the vibrancy of the very air.
Ben Avram’s works are the fruitful climax of 35 years of painting.
His works are included in important collections in the United States, Canada, Israel, Panama, Mexico, Brazil, France, England, Switzerland, and Germany.
Ben Avram is one of those few artists who live their work. His canvases breathe Jerusalem. His watercolors and oils capture this ancient city in myriad moods. His fascination and deep love for the city has made his depictions not just eroticized cursory studies but quintessence of the city’s true spirit. The people he depicts are not creations of imagination but are real people, who he has probably known all his life. Ben Avram almost always presents people in their own milieu, their own world. His paintings are characterized by harmony between man and his environment.
Avram’s mainly likes to depict the landscapes of his beloved Jerusalem. The ancient arched alleyways, steep narrow streets, spires, citadels and famous gates in the wall of the city are lovingly interpreted in his canvases. Varam has little patience for actualities, what he aspires to capture is the light and rhythm of a place as seen in his seascapes of Jaffa and Acre which capture the essence of Mediterranean seacoast.
In the holy land of Jerusalem Ben Avram has realized his true calling.
